Sex And the City: The Movie

The movie continues to explore the trials and tribulations of four friends and their relationships. The characters are all in life changing situations that make for a very dramatic, and heartbreaking movie at times. The uplifting part, as always, is the fashion. This is a movie full of emotions. It takes you on a roller coaster ride but ends on a happy note. Sex and The City is a good Friday night movie.

Cory’s rating: 4 Stars

The Poseidon Adventure

If you like drama and the special effects of 1972, this would be a movie you would enjoy. The passengers on a cruise ship are celebrating New Years when the disaster occurs. The following scenes consist of individual bravery, and heroism among the passengers. Ernest Borgnine and Gene Hackmen are part of the cast. Here’s an interesting fact, the movie was partially filmed on the Queen Mary, currently docked in Long Beach California.

Cory’s thought: Ship disaster movie, not quite Titanic, but pretty good for 1972.

Psycho

The movie “Psycho” is a classic 1960 Alfred Hitchcock drama. I think “Psycho” is one of the creepiest movies ever made. The sound effect alone during the shower scene is disturbing in itself. I think the props in this movie, Bate’s Motel, Norman’s home and all the furnishings are just creepy. Actually, if you want to see Norman’s house it’s at Universal Studios in Los Angelas. I was there a couple of years ago, it’s pretty cool.

Anthony Perkin’s character, Norman Bates, seems ok at the beginning but as the movie progresses his personality changes drastically. I wasn’t sure sometimes if there was another person involved or Norman was just “Psycho”

It interesting that Janet Leigh, the leading lady in” Psycho”, and her daughter Jamie lee Curtis is the leading lady in the Halloween movies. They both starred in a horror movie.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

It’s that time again and one of my favorite Christmas movies:

The Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween and Christmas movie. The clay characters are both interesting and a bit weird. Excellent job by Tim Burton and Disney. This movie is on my favorite list and a must see. The Christmas town scenes are amazing, Miss Clause and the elves make an appearance. Flipping back to Halloween, Jack Skellington and his rag doll girlfriend Sally, manage to escape difficult situations. This movie is fun for everyone.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade

Indiana Jones and the last crusade is the third movie in the Series. it originally came out in 1989 and starred Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. The beginning is set in 1912 and the rest of the movie is 1938.

The movie starts out with Indiana Jones as a young man who is in search of the Holy Grail. Indiana Jones and his Father, Sean Connery, are very amusing together. The movie includes a short scene with Adolf Hitler, and book burnings in Berlin and Nazi occupied Austria. I think these scenes gave the movie a more realistic feel. The scene where Indiana Jones and his father are tied together in a room that is on fire and the Nazis are after them, this is kind of a crazy scene.

I liked the action scene with Indiana Jones and his Father on the blimp.

This is a typical Indiana Jones movie, very adventurous, a lot of action and some comedy. The movie kept my attention as Indiana Jones searches for the Holly Grail.

If you saw the movie, what do you think? If you didn’t it is definitely worth seeing. It is one of my favorite Harrison Ford movies. I actually have an original movie poster from this movie that was given to me. Check it out!

Baywatch

The movie “Baywatch” is based on the TV show, it is good and funny. David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, from the original TV show, makes a cameo  appearance.  I think these scenes were awesome and giving credit to these original stars was a well deserved tribute.  The TV show “Baywatch” was a hit in the 90’s. The original TV show premiered in 1989 and it ended in 2001.

Dwayne Johnson stars in it as Mitch Buchannan, playing  the role of David Hasselhoff, as head lifeguard. I liked how the movie captured some of the old TV scenes, like the slow motion scenes.  However, impossible to top the scenes of Pam Anderson running on the beach in slow motion in the original TV show.

The movie is both a comedy and drama. The scene on the beach where one of the male characters, Ronnie, gets  his body part caught in a deck chair, is funny.  Probably the most dramatic part of the movie is where Mitch saves  two girls from a boat engulfed in flames.

So here is my take on this movie:  Very funny, sexy beach scenes, heroic saves and good movie to reflects back to the 90’s “Baywatch” TV show.

Goldfinger

“Goldfinger” is truly a classic, it originally came out in 1964.  It is the third movie in the James Bond series starring  Sean Connery as James Bond.

In the beginning of the movie when James Bond wakes up, he walks into the bedroom and finds Jill Masterson is laying dead on the bed covered in gold paint.   This is a very memorable scene.   Auric Goldfinger was played by Gert Frobe  he is the main villain in the movie,   he loves gold and is James Bond’s main enemy.

A good car chase scene is where Felix Leiter is following Mr. Solo is good, Felix Leiter is chasing him in a Thunderbird and Mr. Solo is in a black Lincoln Continental.  This is a memorable car scene.

I like the scene towards the end of the movie when Pussy Galore sprays gas in the air Knocks out all the Soldiers is good.

The movie wraps up by Goldfinger trying to blow up Fort Knox and James Bond saves the day.

Movie Fun

On one of my trips to Las Vegas, I went to Circus Circus Casino where the James Bond movie, ” Diamonds Are Forever” was filmed.  I visited the location where Tiffany Case is playing Blackjack and also the arcade where she played the water balloons.
